Hi there, here's a question (before I start blabbing nonsense): Why are you on my website?
A. You were forced to (that's most probably the case!)
B. You were curious (why though?)
C. You were Google-ing my name and this website came up (I doubt this, but who knows?)
Whatever your answer is, thank you.
Thank you because you were willing to waste your time on me and my miserable ramblings. Ha!
Anyway, let's get down to the business of explaining the existense of this website.
The website was created primarily for my own selfish reasons - to get back into writing, because I needed to.
To those who don't know, I am a 'journalism graduate' from the Philippines' University of Santo Tomas, based in Manila. I take pride in calling myself a 'quadricentennial graduate' - it was such a big deal back then, so yeah I'm taking it to the grave!
My first job ever was a TV reporter, though I didn't report nor wrote in English I thought it was ok as long as I was writing. The last thing you want to happen to you is the 'writer's block', cause that will be the death of you - as a journalist. To be honest, I was going nuts back then reporting on the weird weather that the country was accustomed to, the summary executions of unknown individuals in the province, and the different PR-ish government events that we were invited to, but at the end of the day I get to do what I love and that's what's important.
Then in 2012, I had to go to Dubai and start working. I was offered a job in my mom's company and it was pure admin. Admin was ok, but it wasn't the correct line of career for the studies I worked hard for, but at that time it didn't matter because the priority was for me to find a job - whatever it was.
But God works in mysterious ways, a few months later I was offered an internship by a media company. It was one of the biggest media companies in the UAE, if not in the region. I grabbed it! I resigned, called the media company and told them I'm in even if there wasn't any guarantee of me getting absorbed. Thankfully, after three months of unpaid internship they offered me a full time position! It was admin, but it didn't matter because I was in a media company anyway plus the boss was willing to have me do my part in the editorial side, so aside from the admin tasks I had to accomplish for my boss, I was given editorial tasks too, though it wasn't the usual beat such as when I was in the Philippines, it was ok, as long as I was writing.
But after a year, my admin tasks took over my life and there I stopped writing. It didn't matter back then. That's what I thought. I didn't realize I was losing my grip on the art of writing.
I tried a few times, I'd set up a few blog sites (probably around 3-4 sites) but still wouldn't find the time to work on them.
Three years later, here I am, starting again, trying... Let's see if I'd last. For now, let's raise our glass (imaginary, of course) and celebrate the return of letters... of words, to this weird brain of mine! Let the musings begin!
